Evolution of a River Delta
On a recent trip we stayed at a resort on a small lake and they had a tiny man made beach. It rained the first two days and the runoff across the beach created a natural model of the creation of a river delta; hundreds of years compressed into two days. It has nothing to do with GIS per se but I thought it was a fascinating geography lesson and wanted to share it with you.

You never got it to look like this in that sandbox in the lab.
