The email system is pretty straight forward. Click on it and select Send to user(s) or Send to group(s).
Groups are the various user levels described on the Essentials page except for Guests. To select a single recipient click on it; to select more than one use Shift-click or Control-Click to select a range or add another.
Fill in the necessary info and your message and click Send Email.
