Virtual Showcase: How GISCorps Can Help Advance Your Career While Creating a Better World

GISCorps is a URISA program that has been providing short-term volunteer GIS services to communities in need around the world since 2003. Recent missions range from a single volunteer creating a dashboard for a search and rescue organization to hundreds of volunteers mapping COVID-19 testing sites nationwide. GISCorps has over 6,000 registered volunteers in 132 countries; these volunteers bring a wide variety of skills and experience to the organizations they serve, earning points toward GISP certification and renewal as they give back to the global community. In this webinar, you'll hear about a few recent GISCorps projects, learn more about what it takes to become a GISCorps volunteer, and find out how GISCorps volunteers benefit—both personally and professionally—from volunteering.

Holly Torpey, GISP, is the part-time Program Coordinator for GISCorps and an active volunteer for both GISCorps and Kiva.org. She has a master's degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology from University of Southern California and a background in natural resources management. She lives in Long Beach, CA.
