The showcase event offers an opportunity for college undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate their GIS proficiency to an audience of GIS professionals in order to earn financial assistance towards their education and/or research, thanks to our generous members and sponsors. In this year’s event, MAGIC will grant $2,500 in scholarships and/or awards (depending on the student’s eligibility) in a competition open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Students from any college or university in the greater Memphis area will be welcome to participate, and participants will give a 15-minute presentation on a GIS-related project they’re working on.

Purpose

Education is a central component of the Memphis Area Geographic Information Council’s (MAGIC) mission. The purpose of the MAGIC Academic Scholarship program is to encourage and support students’ education through the completion of commendable GIS projects. MAGIC hopes to award one $2000 scholarship annually, available to any qualifying undergraduate student enrolled in a college or university in areas served by MAGIC.

Our generous members and sponsors have made it possible to offer academic scholarships since 2013. We are proud to support the new generation of GIS professionals through our Student Scholarship Program.
